#1 Select a Good Photographer
Get a good photographer. Better yet, if you have a friend that likes to take photos, they would be purrfect for the job! Even if the person is not a pet photographer, they will still be able to take great photos of your pet and you. Make sure to tell them that you’re bringing your dog or cat along or that they will be present during the photo shoot so everyone is on the same page.
#2 Plan your outfits ahead of time
Plan your outfit or outfits for the day. Yes, that means for your pet too! Dogs and cats like to show off just as much as we do. So pick something special.

#4 Come prepared to the photo shoot
On the day of the photo shoot make sure you have an extra bag packed. Fill this bag with the following…- Treats to praise your pet for a job well done. This is also a great trick to help get your pets attention over to the photographer.
- Any props you wish to use.
- A change of clothes for you and your fur baby. This is great if you plan on having different outfits during your photo shoot or if someone gets one outfit dirty. We are not pointing any paws! ;)
- Bring a rag towel for wiping muddy paws.
- Jug of water and a drinking dish for thirsty pets.
- Last but not least, remember to bring the poop bags. Hey, it happens! And the last thing you want to do is have you or your pet step in it.
#5 Have ideas in mind for what type of photos you want
Do you have ideas of what photos you want to end up with after your pet photo shoot is done? It’s a great idea to have these in mind before you go. If your photographer is a seasoned one, then they will direct the photo shoot and be able to put you and your fur baby at ease.
The great thing about having your pet there is they will take away any anxiousness you may have. One kiss or nudge from them will make you more relaxed in no time. This is an extra benefit to doing a photo shoot with your pet. Your fur baby will make the photographs look natural and effortless.
Here are some great photo ideas to get you started:
